Chhapaak Box Office Prediction Day 1: Despite Boycott Deepika Outrage, The Film Will See A Decent Opening
Deepika Padukone is bringing the story of an acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal to celluloid through her film Chhapaak. The trailer and the songs of the film have received a great response from the audiences and we are waiting to watch it in the theatres. With just two days to go for its release, we spoke to Trade Analyst Girish Johar to understand the box office prediction of the film. There is an immense buzz around the film and it is expected that Chhapaak will receive a good opening.

Talking about the first day collections of the film, the trade analyst says, "Chhapaak is based on a true story. It is a social-drama and is toplined by Deepika Padukone who is one of the biggest stars in the country we have. It is being directed by Meghna Gulzar and we all know that it is a very socially relevant film. It is making the right noises and it is a very targetted film for the audiences. I believe it will have an opening of around Rs 5 crore. It will then depend on the word of mouth and feedback, the collections can go and up and down."

However, there is a negative social media that has sparked against the film. As Deepika Padukone visited the JNU campus and stood in solidarity with the injured students post violence, netizens are slamming the actress and trending #boycottchaapaak. Has this led to any dip in the pre-booking of Chhapaak? Girish says, "This initiates a lot of respect for Deepika Padukone. To stand with people or students grieving without making any statements is more than enough. Despite she being the producer of Chhapaak, she knew that it could spiral down and backfire as well, I think that decision of hers is there. Social media trending is not a broad indicator that people would completely go against it. Deepika has faced this in the past with Padmaavat, but eventually, people watched it. Thoda bohot farak hota hai, but if picture achi hogi, you will be compelled to watch it."
